With so many players out with the Cobra Flu, the Renegades had to play Loan List Roulette. Twice they pulled the trigger and twice they heard a re-assuring “click” by adding Alex Wong, John Altinian and newcomer Arsalan Noorafkan to their frontline.  But it was the Cobra Kai who struck first when Raghav snuck behind the defender and calmly slotted home the ball.

The Renegades turned it around with two quick goals that were keyed by excellent runs by Captain Theo. However with Theo pressing forward that left another opening and this time Rogelio found himself alone with just the goalie to beat.  And beat him he did.

In the 2nd half the Renegades once again responded with two more goals to go up 4-2 and seemingly had the game under control. But the Cobra Kai kept their poise.  They knew they would get more chances.  Besides, snakes are pretty smart… you can’t pull their leg. First Menemen Metin Guler found himself all alone in the box and buried his shot to make it 4-3. And Hamid finally found twine to tie it up at 4. From that point on no one managed to break the tie, especially Ivan.

Both the Barons and D-mentors were looking to rebound after a pair of tough losses the week prior. During warm ups, the Barons could be seen performing a keep away passing drill to get the blood flowing, while D-mentors opted for an energy saving approach.

The whistle blew on this tilt with a familiar face standing at centre for the D-Mentors. Sam Modarresi  would no doubt be looking to make an impact early. D-mentors moved quickly to take control of the midfield and managed to earn a slick chance up the right wing. Scott Kamins cut to the middle and rifled a shot on net. Baron’s keeper Murat was able to just get a piece, deflecting the shot high. On the ensuing corner, Sam crossed the ball to the middle of the box destined for a waiting Alex Salcedo Who was quickly swarmed by Frank and Brian  “not on our watch” they chuckled. Late in the first half, Seamus would not be denied, putting a beautiful volley in the air over the defender and smashing the shot home as it fell. Brilliant goal. 1-nill at half.

A scary moment in the second, the ball was deep in the D-mentors half, Vic tracking, Vlad was first to, and made a hard clearing attempt. Vic ate the ball in the worst way crumbling immediately. Everyone agreed it was the hardest shot they’d ever seen anyone take to the face.  Vic would be okay. The match continued with a flurry of shots raining in from all sides. Christy and Burinski pulled a little tic-tac-toe and fired a shot with Murat making yet another brilliant save on route to a shutout. 1-0 final score.

The Primetime match saw 6th placed Spartans host 5th placed Clubber Lang in what many consider as a do-or-die match for the Spartans. The Spartans snatched former D-mentors ace John Altinian in hopes to end the club record losing streak (How was this transfer possible? The window closed 2 weeks ago! Was it the infamous fax machine delay?). To summarize the match in one sentence: “They saw, they came, and they conquered”. Who? Of course it was the Spartans (I know Caesar was Roman, minor details..).

From kickoff it was clear that this would be a tough game for Clubber Lang as they were missing their stars Andrew Winnett and Julio Araujo. There was some good news when Suleman Ibrahim rejoined the team after a 2 months absence rumored to have been caused by a training ground bust-up (truth was the missus needed him at home). The game started well for both teams, and then.. BAM! It’s 3-1 to the Spartans at half time. (“Well, that escalated quickly!” and I agree, but since the second half was more interesting I decided to cut this part of the report short.)

John Altinian drew first blood after the break by launching an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net to make it 4 -1. There is a famous saying that football is a game of 2 halves. That does not apply to Clubber Lang. For them, football is a game of 5 minutes (seriously, our stamina is so bad we barely last 5 mins). In the five minutes after John’s goal, Dan Newman and Alex Wong combined to score 3 times to tie the game at 4 – 4. The Spartans were visibly shocked when the game tying goal was scored. Luckily for the Spartans, just like Cinderella’s time running out at midnight, Clubber Lang’s five minutes ran out after the 4th goal. The rest of the game involved Clubber Lang having 2-3 players man marking JJ (to no avail), while John Altinian and the rest of the Spartans ran circles around the keeper and what’s left of the Langs. The Spartans put so many goals past the Lang’s that everyone lost count. Final score was either 8-4 or 7-4 to the Spartans.

ps. This new combo of JJ&J is legit… watch out for it.

Week 12 Results

Cobra Kai took the field against a depleted Spartans team. With many players unavailable and Mario Vega pulling a no-show the Spartans were in tough.  The game was a bit scrappy to start.  The first goal came off a corner kick when Metinho got the end of a low cross to put it past Bonner.  Shortly thereafter, Hamid took a pass in the area and with defenders crowding him out, made a quick pass to an unmarked Ivan who slotted home.  The first half ended with a great goal by Rogelio who ran straight up the middle of the field and finished with his left foot.

The second half saw the heart of the Spartans come out. They were tired and down 3-0 but kept pushing forward.  Although they couldn’t find the back of the net, they generated chances.  One incident marred the game though.  Ivan lost his footing and fell hard to the ground.  Not only did the Spartans show no concern for his well-being but some of their players accused the Blues’ captain of diving as if he was an Argentine.  His pain was alleviated when he set up Hadi for one last goal to make the final 4-0.

Second place was at stake when D-Mentors (does anyone know what the D stands for?) and the Renegades battled Wednesday night. Dickens would say it’s a tale of two cities here, on the one hand D-mentors have had a stranglehold on 2nd place since the Obama administration while Renegades have started from the bottom (now they’re here).

First half was tightly contested and both teams had great opportunities, both John Altinian and John Burinski kept the Renegades humble by making solid runs and creating good opportunities. The Renegades were resilient and held the D-mentors back. Natasha opened the scoring with a nice pass from Brett Baker, Neil Carey doubled that up with a counter attack which started in the Renegades end. At half John Altinian was heard trying to inspire his troops with some Winston Churchill quotes. Meanwhile the Renegades were discussing baby names for Beyonce and Jay-Z’s latest twins, Natasha was hoping for baby girls.

2nd half saw the D-Mentors push the action a bit more and they really did have some great chances. But Mutlu was motivated by Brad Hughes secret pre-match email in which Brad predicted he would out-keeper Mutlu twice tonight, so much for Bradley’s prediction. Mutlu would win this duo as Brad lost to Mutlu in the second game as well.  Natasha added a second goal in the 2nd half and she was Queen Bee for the night. Renegades 3, D-Mentors 0.

The primetime game saw league leaders Barons FC visit relegation threatened¹ Clubber Lang. The high octane match showcased why Teacher’s Champions League ranked as the top league in the world² in the world.

Barons FC started off the game in spectacular style and were on the score board within a minute after kick-off (common guys….I didn’t even have my cleats on yet!). Confusion among Clubber Lang’s defense led to Barons getting a 2 vs 1 situation where Barons’ forward calmly slotted past the keeper to make it 1 – 0. Clubber Lang soon regrouped and were able to pull one back by the 10th minute (I was still waiting to be subbed on at this point..). This was the turning point of the game; Clubber Lang suddenly turned up the heat and produced wave after wave of attacks. Mid-way through first half Clubber Lang defender Hector sent a powerful effort that somehow hit both posts before falling kindly for Barons defenders to clear. However, Hector was able to put that disappointment behind him and soon got on the score sheet himself. At half time the score was 3-1 to Clubber Lang.

Second half started with Clubber Lang striker Dan Newman trying from distance, missing the net by mere inches³. Both teams then got into a pattern of passing the ball swiftly around the center of the pitch, but producing few clear cut opportunities. This is the first game for former Barons striker Andrew Winnett to face his old team after the high value mid-season switch to Clubber Lang. The occasion certainly did not affect Andrew as he put together a MOTM performance by scoring his hat-trick goal minutes into the second half. Barons were able to reduce the deficit to 2 goals though it was too little too late. Clubber Lang was able to extend the winning run to 2 games.

¹ We do not relegate teams in this league because we are nice. (Actually we just don’t have enough players)

²As voted by players and staff of the league.

³I think it was closer to feet/ yards actually, but Dan would kill me if I wrote that.

Week 11 Results

Week 11 in the TCL featured a highly anticipated matchup between Cobra Kai and Barons FC. With all of the pre-game smack talk between these two squads, this game was shaping up to be anything but friendly. Cobra Kai Captain Ivan Gojmerac all but guaranteed a victory by boldly stating “We’re going to take them out, sweep the leg!”

Cobra Kai jumped out of the gate early, backing up their brash threats with a ‘strike first, strike-often, no mercy strategy.  A beautiful combination of passes from Metin Guler to Dan Trojanowski and then to Hadi Alnahlawi dazed the Barons who could only watch as Hadi’s shot went just wide of the net. Baron’s keeper Bradley Hughes, battling a vicious Popeye elbow, showed us why he’s strong to the finish and he eats his spinach, making a number of unbelievable point-blank saves. Cobra keeper Mutlu was equally as solid at the other end denying Barons chances with cat-like reflexes.   In the final minute of the 1st half, still scoreless, Baron striker Seamus Lynott would not be denied, circling the perimeter like a hungry shark blasted a low hard shot into the back of the net. 1-0 Barons as the whistle blew.

More of the same in the  2nd half, with Cobra pressing relentlessly, Eric Abel would not be denied, breaking Paul Callahan’s ankles and blasting a shot top corner.  Not even Popeye himself would have saved that one.  Baron superstars John Di Re and Victor would provide the KO punches to put Cobra down for the count. 4-1 final score!

Clubber Lang was finally able to climb out of the bottom of the league after winning 3 -1 in their second home game of the season against the D-Mentors.  Some say (aka me) the three points were long overdue after the D-Mentors destroyed Clubber Lang 3-0 and 4-1 in the 2 previous meetings.

The game started with a shadow casted on Clubber Lang as they have never gotten a single point off the D-Mentors (seriously though, someone forgot to turn on the lights on our side). D-Mentors were able to coast through Clubber’s defense like a hot knife through butter (to be fair, it was dark, they had dark uniforms and were really fast). Keeper Kevin (thank you Kevin!) kept Clubber in the game by making a string of fine saves. Things got worse for Clubber Lang when Alex Salcedo caught the defense napping and calmly slotted past the goalie to make it 1 – 0. Clubber captain Alex Wong was furious with the goal and rallied the team to play together and try to equalize. The team was rewarded when Alex hit a fine shot that slipped past D-Mentor’s goalie to tie the game at 1 – 1. For the remaining half there were chances from both sides with Alex coming the closest to scoring with a fine header that came off the crossbar (do we have budget for goal line tech next year? It looked a goal from my angle). Half Time: 1 – 1

2nd half started with Clubber Lang making a change as captain Alex was unable to continue (No.. he wasn’t injured, he had to go to some Maternity/Pregnancy/Prenatal group reunion thingy with the Ms.. Not really sure what that is… probably for the ladies to come together and show off how much weight they were able to lose after the pregnancy?). The 2nd half was played in a similar pattern where there were attacks back and forth from both teams. Clubber Lang got the advantage through Dan Newman planting a header across to the keeper’s left after connecting with a delicious cross from new signing Andrew Winnett. D-Mentors upped their attack after the goal, but were caught pushing too many players forward as Dan Newman again had time to get his shot out from 3 yards outside the penalty area that got past D-Mentor’s goalie. The D-Mentors poured on the pressure late but couldn’t find the back of the net.  Full Time: Clubber Lang 3 – 1 D-Mentors

The primetime game featured the Renegades and the Spartans. The Renegades came into the game with not having lost since November and a chance to tie D-Mentors for 2nd place in the league standings. The Spartans were looking to put an end to the Renegades streak and gain some traction in the second half of the season.

The newest addition to the Renegades, Neil Carey, wasted no time in showing why he was such a valuable pick up by scoring within the first couple minutes of the game. However, that lead was short-lived as the Spartans battled back with Duy sliding one past Kev from a near impossible angle. With the game tied 1-1 the Renegades knew they needed to distance themselves from the high-powered Spartans. Brett Baker was able make a great run and pick a corner like he has all season to give Renegades the lead. Adding to the lead late in the half, Baker made a beautiful pass behind the Spartan defenders to a wide open Theo who had enough time to call the family and ask what was for dinner, text the girlfriend and write half this game recap before he shot the ball into the bottom corner. Brad was not pleased. The score was now 3-1 Renegades after the first half.

The second half stayed primarily in the middle of the field until Duy was able to slip past the defense from a great long ball from Brad and capture his second goal of the night. With time winding down and the Spartans within reach, JJ decided he had enough of Fernando’s chirping. The Jerunaut took over. Making a brilliant run down the left side with a defender on his back JJ made a great play to tie the game 3-3. The Renegades could smell 2nd place and made one final push. With great passing between Baker, Natasha and Fernando they were able to cap off a tic-tac-toe play to Neil for his second within the last minutes of the game. Final score Renegades 4 Spartans 3.

Week 10 Results

When historians look back on 2016, they will surely highlight the significant events such as; the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series, the whacky U.S. Presidential election, Leo finally getting his Oscar, and of course Barons FC being crowned the Fall Champs! But 2017 brings a fresh slate, and a push for the TCL playoffs!

The Week 10 matchup between Barons and Spartans began off the field with both teams debating who was actually more out of shape from the break. (It was deemed a draw). Finally the whistle blew on this tilt with Spartans not wasting any time. JJ asserted dominance early with a run and a shot on goal. Keeper Brad Hughes battling a bout of the norovirus made the incredible save! On the other end, Seamus Lynott and Victor Cristiano crashing the net. Seamus put a dazzling move on the Spartan defender, crossed the ball, ended up being about ¼ over the goal line when Vic finished it off. GOAL!!! ! Late in the 1st half, with Duy taking a corner, looking for his partner in crime, no one is really sure what Captain Callahan was doing but it wasn’t covering Mario has the shifty lefty booted a missile into the back of the net. 1-1 deadlock at half.

In the 2nd half, Baron’s desperate to fill the hole left by the departed Andrew Winnett, moved John Di Re up from defense to midfield. John wasted no time in netting two absolutely stunning goals back to back like the Blue Jays in 92/93. 3-1! Spartans were down, but not out. Pressure coming from Nico Ress and Yi Nan Tang led to a clutch snipe trickling past the goal  3-2. Rookie sensation Zach Siewart was quoted on the Baron’s sideline as saying “Well, good thing we got 2”. Baron’s new addition Mohit Talwar would add one final nail in the coffin at the final whistle. Barons 5 DEF Spartans 2.

New look Clubber Lang came into their match against the Renegades with high expectations. Newly acquired mid-field Andrew Winnett was looking to change this team’s fortune. Meanwhile the Renegades were hoping to maintain the momentum they had built in the latter half of 2016.

The Renegades had Brett Baker back in the line-up and it helped them a great deal as he scored the first two goals of the game via similar fashion, solo runs with top corner shots. Top marks for the defender as the Clubber Lang keeper had no chance on both goals. However this wasn’t the Clubber Lang of old and they responded in kind with Dan Newman and Alex Wong both scoring to tie the game up at two.

In the dying moments of the game Baker found Fernando Ayala with a sensational pass and he scored the winner. This was a very close game and it really could have gone either way, Clubber Lang has a lot to look forward to and The Renegades continue to roll. Renegades win 3-2.

Cobra Kai still remember their 8-4 drubbing at the hands of the D-Mentors earlier in the season.  They lined up with a full squad while D-Mentors had only one substitute.  Before the game, both team’s drank cans of red bull and that set the tone for a high paced game.  There were on a number of good scoring opportunities on both ends, but the best came from John Altinian.  Cobra Kai turned the ball over in the opposition half and a quick pass sent Altinian on a breakaway.  We’d have all bet on the outcome but no one told Mutlu who blocked the effort and knocked it off of the post and out for a corner kick.  The Cobra Kai players swarmed Mutlu because it’s not every day you stop Altinian.  It was 0-0 at the half.

The red bull wore off in the second half and it was played at a much slower pace. The game went from run and gun to a tactical battle and both teams were well organized.  The breakthrough came mid-way through the half when Metin received a pass from the left.  The looping ball bounced up and hit Metin’s hand who then half-volleyed it into the net.  Was it ball to hand or hand to ball?  This writer thinks that Cobra Kai got away with one.  Cobra Kai needed a second and it came minutes later when Rogelio sent a side-kick from the centre line of the field to an unmarked Leon Perelman who headed in majestically.  This writer doesn’t know what was more impressive, the pass or the final touch.

D-Mentors pressed forward but couldn’t score. Some key defensive blocks by Ted Guo and great saves by Mutlu kept D-Mentors at bay.  The final result was 2-0 Cobra Kai.

Renegades Climb out of Basement

In their previous meeting the Spartans had owned the Renegades, however the Renegades were on a one game winning hot streak and were feeling lucky on the night.

The Spartans were without striker Ronal-Duy, word is he was out Christmas shopping for his team. This impacted the Spartans in a great way, a little less bite up front. The Renegades came out firing taking a 3-0 commanding lead on goals from Brett, Alexis and Fernando. The Renegades were passing the ball well while The Spartans were trying to find their footing. General JJ was trying to rally his troops with motivational war cries.

Relief came for The Spartans in the form of two goals as they fought back, The Renegades took their lead for granted and paid a price. However time ran out on the Spartans and The Renegades dream run of two wins in a row continues.

In other action, D-Mentors derailed Barons with a 2-1 victory while Cobra Kai were skinned 5-4 by Mr. T.

Barons Beat Spartans!

Week 6 in the Toronto Champions League featured a Week 4 rematch between Barons FC vs Spartans FC, both currently sitting atop of the league table in 1st and 2nd respectively….. Dinner time!   Spartan’s premier defender “JJ” was quoted as saying “Madness? This is Sparta!” Meanwhile, Barons’ striker Seamus “Brogue Kick”  Lynott guaranteed that “a thousand shots on goal would descend upon them”.  HERE WE GO, MADNESS!

The whistle blew and the battle was underway! Baron’s struck first blood with a beautiful cross from THE “Brogue Kick” to Andrew “The Winner” Winnett for the finish. Another goal from Barons would send them into half-time up 2-0.  Early in the second, with Spartans pressing,  Mario “Street Fighter” Vega hit the turbo button and lobbed the ball to striker Yi Nan “Freight Train” Tang, who finally found the back of the net! GOALLL.  Later in the second, “Freight Train” Tang again took the ball hard to the net and steam rolled Baron’s keeper Kevin “Berlin Wall” Bonner who could only watch in horror as the ball trickled into the net. Tie game? NO!!….GOAL CALLED OFF!. “Dangerous play, no goal”  said the referee…..With Spartans in desperation mode late, the vulterous Baron’s would add a third and final goal.  History would once again repeat itself with the Spartans being  defeated by the empire! 3-1 final score

Renegades Get a Win!

FCber Lang’s strategy so far this season has been to tread water until star striker Alex Wong returns from a case of Newbabyitis. A match-up against the struggling Renegades was just what they needed, or so they thought.   Theo “The Body” Blanchard opened the scoring by collecting a sweet lob pass and just getting a toe on the ball in order to give him the wide open net to tap it in.  FCber Lang pressed late in the 1st half with a series of chances off of corner kicks but could not capitalize.  Neither team had any subs at their disposal so things started to slow down considerably in the 2nd half.  So slow that Scott Tudo’s shot is still just crossing the goal line after squeezing under goalie Brad “Wow I suck” Hughes.  “Boomin” Dan Newman collected a goal on some defensive confusion to make it 2-1 but the Renegades held on for their 1st victory of the year.  Perhaps it’s just a coincidence that Fernando wasn’t there.

D-Mentors Keep Rollin’

Cobra Kai found themselves undermanned two games in a row with their captain still in recovery. He has been seen lifting weights, jogging around town and punching meat rocky balboa style to avoid a third missing game. luckily they had help from Andrew “the magic”, though it wasn’t enough. the game opened with another rocket from John Altinian aka golden foot. cobra kai struck back with a pass from Andrew that left 4 defenders watch metin hit the ball over brad “where did that come from” hughes. the first half finished with both teams missing chances. however in the second half things slowly turned to Altinian and Co’s advantage. cobra kai looked more and more lost out there and metinho who had come out of retirement for this game realized he should have stayed retired. their defense did the best they could against the quick feet of d-mentors, but couldnot stop another 3 goals. final whistle showed 4-1 on the scoreboard.

Week 5 Results – Injured Fingers

All the TCL writers injured their fingers last week, so there are no game reports.  In brief, the Renegades got their first point of the season earning a 2-2 draw with D-Mentors while Barons came from behind to beat Cobra Kai 3-2. In the late game, Spartans beat Clubber Lang 4-1 to climb to second place in the standings.

Week 4 Results

Now I know how the Washington Generals felt playing against the Harlem Globetrotters.  On Wednesday night it was the D-Mentors playing the role of the Globetrotters against a venomless Cobra Kai team.  The D-Mentors struck first and struck often in the opening half.  After scoring the 7th goal, Burinski and Altinian celebrated by chest bumping all the way back to the centre circle.  They must’ve gotten 10 of them in.  Christy was in a party mood and was seen dancing the Samba a few times.  At half-time, he was doing his dance in front of a seated Prem who said “this is awkward, knock it off”.  Burinski intervened and said “It’s fine, keep going”.  Much like Germany vs Brazil in 2014, the second half needed to be played but the game was lost.  Cobra Kai managed to salvage some pride and only lost 8-4, having been down 7-2 at half-time.  We lived to fight another day.

In other action, league leaders Barons FC were held to a 1-1 draw by the Spartans.  Goals came from Zach and JJ respectively.  Clubber Lang is now riding a 2 game win streak as they beat the Renegades 6-4.

Barons vs D-Mentors

Week 3 in the TCL kicked off with a much anticipated matchup between the red hot D-Mentors FC versus the undefeated Barons FC.  Now you may be wondering, what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Your guess is as good as mine, but this game was as close to answering the paradox as anyone has ever come!

Due to forces beyond their control, players from both teams found themselves running a little late to the dance. The party began with 5 a side at first, but as players trickled in, Commissioner Gojmerac, conducted a masterful symphony to orchestrate additional players into the game until the match was fully charged to 7 a-side.  The first 30 minutes of this tilt were extremely tight. Both squads refused to give up any ground. Plenty of chances by the D-Mentors had the Barons on their heels forcing “Force field” Bonner to literally bail them out of jail over and over.  The score was nil-nil at half, with both teams hungry for the first goal.

The second half immediately began with a much more open and offensive feel.  Barons opened the floodgates with a flurry of 4 unanswered goals.  Reaching a boiling point, D-Mentors Captain John Burinski took matters into his own hands with a blazing fast rush down the wing and fired a missile into the back of the net.  Baron’s would respond with 2 more goals to put the nail in the coffin.  6-1 Final score! Baron’s remain undefeated!

Spartans vs Renegades

In their much anticipated first meeting of the season, there was huge speculation as to which team would walk away with their first win.  The Spartans opened up the scoring with their fearless captain Duy leading the way and scoring a quick goal.  JJ followed with a rocket that vaulted the Spartans into a strong 2-0 lead at half time.

During the second half, the Renegades swapped their keeper in an attempt to gain momentum.  When captain Theo asked for volunteers, everyone put their head down.  That is, everyone except for Alexis Yearwood who sacrificed for the team.  Unfortunately the Renegades couldn’t get into a rhythm and fell further behind thanks to a resurgent Duy.  Most of the Renegades squad was up late the previous night, celebrating Trumps triumph in the US Presidential election.  The game finished 5-0 to the Spartans.

Cobra Kai vs Clubber Lang

In the primetime match, a depleted Clubber Lang called on some loan players take on Cobra Kai. While it’s now known where most of their absentees were, we do know where Julio was. With Venezuela hosting Bolivia in a World Cup Qualifier, the pre-drinking started on Wednesday.  It was Clubber Lang who drew first blood with a Winnett left footer that beat Cobra Kai keeper Mutlu. Looking for their points of the season, this goal lifted the spirits of the CL players who kept pushing for more. The half ended 1-0.

The second half was similar to the first in that it was very tight and not a lot of changes were generated. The ones that did come up were pushed aside by Bonner and Mutlu. In the end it was Clubber Lang getting their first win of the season by a 1-0 scoreline.

Barons Keep Soaring

Week 2 in the Teachers’ Champions League featured an epic bout between Football Clubber Lang in the Teal corner, and Barons FC in the Silver corner. Just prior to kickoff, the ref was quoted as saying: “Remember to protect yourself at all times and above all, obey my command at all times. Touch em UP!

Both squads came out swinging – but it was Clubber Lang who brought the pain early with a first strike goal off the boot of John “Brake your ankles” Altinian. Barons FC responded with a mesmerizing cross from Andrew “The Wizard” Winnett to his partner in crime Shay “Brogue Kick” Lynott who found the back of the net. With Barons FC still pressing, Brian “King of the Jungle” Lyons captured the lead with a ferocious finish assisted by Vic “The Terminator” Cristiano. Clubber Lang keeper Brad “M2” Hughes was solid in net to keep the match close.  The whistle blew at half- time Barons 2 Clubber 1

The bell rang to open the second round with flurry of strikes from Clubber Lang.  Daniel “Boomin” Newman, veteran and future 1st ballot Hall of Famer was able to blast a shot on net, but Kevin “The Forcefield” Bonner made a diving save to bail out his team. Later in the half, with the score at 4-1, Julio “El Mago” Araujo stepped up and blasted a brilliant goal to bring Clubber Lang within 2. Late in the game, Zach “The Warrior” Siewart  made a terrific defensive play to clear the ball from danger. 5-2 final score. Rumour has it promoters from both camps are already in talks about a prime time rematch!

Cobra Kai Wins

Cobra Kai came out 4-3 winners over a much improved Renegades squad.  Sam Shareski opened the scoring when he beat the keeper from in close.  It stayed 1-0 until half time.  The second half started and it was all Renegades.  Brett Baker marked his arrival to the TCL with 2 goals in quick succession that gave the Renegades the lead.  Shortly thereafter it was Scott Tudo who blasted a shot past Mutlu to make it 3-1.

Things were looking bleak and got worse when Cobra Kai lost Dan Trojanowski to an injury.  They looked to their prolific goalscorer Hadi to do something and he did with 2 goals to make the game 3-3.  This comeback seemed unlikely and it gave Cobra Kai the strength to press forward.  Late in the game the Cobras won a corner kick and Ivan ran over to take it.  The corner found Metin who powered a header past Murat that won the game for Cobra Kai.

Spartans and D-Mentors Battle to Draw

There were lots of shots and lots of great saves.  The only players to find the back of the net were Nico Ress for the Spartans and Neil Carey for the D-Mentors.  Everyone is still too tired from the game, to remember anything more than that.
