Barons Keep Soaring

Week 2 in the Teachers’ Champions League featured an epic bout between Football Clubber Lang in the Teal corner, and Barons FC in the Silver corner. Just prior to kickoff, the ref was quoted as saying: “Remember to protect yourself at all times and above all, obey my command at all times. Touch em UP!

Both squads came out swinging – but it was Clubber Lang who brought the pain early with a first strike goal off the boot of John “Brake your ankles” Altinian. Barons FC responded with a mesmerizing cross from Andrew “The Wizard” Winnett to his partner in crime Shay “Brogue Kick” Lynott who found the back of the net. With Barons FC still pressing, Brian “King of the Jungle” Lyons captured the lead with a ferocious finish assisted by Vic “The Terminator” Cristiano. Clubber Lang keeper Brad “M2” Hughes was solid in net to keep the match close.  The whistle blew at half- time Barons 2 Clubber 1

The bell rang to open the second round with flurry of strikes from Clubber Lang.  Daniel “Boomin” Newman, veteran and future 1st ballot Hall of Famer was able to blast a shot on net, but Kevin “The Forcefield” Bonner made a diving save to bail out his team. Later in the half, with the score at 4-1, Julio “El Mago” Araujo stepped up and blasted a brilliant goal to bring Clubber Lang within 2. Late in the game, Zach “The Warrior” Siewart  made a terrific defensive play to clear the ball from danger. 5-2 final score. Rumour has it promoters from both camps are already in talks about a prime time rematch!

Cobra Kai Wins

Cobra Kai came out 4-3 winners over a much improved Renegades squad.  Sam Shareski opened the scoring when he beat the keeper from in close.  It stayed 1-0 until half time.  The second half started and it was all Renegades.  Brett Baker marked his arrival to the TCL with 2 goals in quick succession that gave the Renegades the lead.  Shortly thereafter it was Scott Tudo who blasted a shot past Mutlu to make it 3-1.

Things were looking bleak and got worse when Cobra Kai lost Dan Trojanowski to an injury.  They looked to their prolific goalscorer Hadi to do something and he did with 2 goals to make the game 3-3.  This comeback seemed unlikely and it gave Cobra Kai the strength to press forward.  Late in the game the Cobras won a corner kick and Ivan ran over to take it.  The corner found Metin who powered a header past Murat that won the game for Cobra Kai.

Spartans and D-Mentors Battle to Draw

There were lots of shots and lots of great saves.  The only players to find the back of the net were Nico Ress for the Spartans and Neil Carey for the D-Mentors.  Everyone is still too tired from the game, to remember anything more than that.
